i want to…break things and bang things and seek out sounds for the sake of music. has anyone ever captured the sound of a real couple actually making love? what does a breakup sound like, when replayed over and over and over and over? would it be more heartbreaking with a melody, or would that cheapen it? does a father make a sound when his son finally comes out of the closet? could i sift through a plethora of voicemails to construct a narrative of my own design? what does destroying a piano do to the pianist in the midst of a piece? would he help bring down the great wooden beast, or be appalled at the notion that the ship he commands may be sunk? can i get a group of sixty people to follow orders, so i may glean a thunderous chant from them? how far must we go until we pass through pretentious and contrived into something worthy of time and effort and thought and praise and understanding?
